If you have ever longed for shapely buttocks that augment your natural curves, then you may qualify for a Brazilian butt lift. Also called BBL, this procedure involves removing excess fat from one part of your body, and then injecting it into the buttocks themselves. Your surgeon will then reshape the buttock tissue to ensure a beautiful, proportional shape.
BBL can transform your silhouette and rejuvenate your self-confidence. The key to lasting Brazilian butt lift results is having a successful recovery after surgery, which ensures the survival of the injected fat cells. Here are some tips to promote a smooth recovery.
What To Know About BBL Recovery
Avoid Pressure on the Buttocks
For the first six weeks after surgery, you will need to avoid placing any pressure on your buttocks. Instead of lying on your back, it is best to lie on your stomach or side. Do not sit, but use a modified pillow to prop up your thighs to mimic a sitting position. If you must sit, such as when using the bathroom, try to restrict your sitting time to 10 minutes at the most.
Allow Some Time to Rest
For the first couple of weeks after your Brazilian butt lift, you should anticipate some mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Allow a full two weeks to rest and heal. It is suggested to take time away from the workplace, avoid vigorous exercise, and abstain from lifting your children or other heavy objects. To stay active, we recommend taking a light walk each day.
Wear Compression Garments
Before you are discharged, you will be provided with compression garments to wear. These garments are intended to reduce swelling in the areas where the fat was liposuctioned for injecting into your buttocks. For most patients, we recommend wearing compression garments regularly for the first four weeks of recovery.
Use a BBL Pillow
While wearing your compression garments, you may still find it uncomfortable to sit directly on your buttocks for extended periods. Specialized BBL pillows can help distribute pressure evenly and provide support during healing. These pillows typically have a U-shaped cutout in the center to accommodate your buttocks and elevate your thighs.
Here’s how to use a BBL pillow:
- Place the BBL pillow on a chair or flat surface.
- Sit on the pillow with your buttocks resting comfortably in the cutout area.
- The pillow should elevate your thighs, reducing pressure on your buttocks.
Be Patient
It is important to remember that you will not experience full results right away. If you rush your recovery, you could lose injected fat cells and compromise your surgical results.
After about three years, the acute risk of losing injected fat cells decreases enough that you can resume most of your normal daily activities, including trips to the gym. The final results of a Brazilian butt lift should be visible and apparent after about six months, concluding your recovery period.
